Lately, my interest in rigging has increase. There is an pansexual event in Vancouver that is specifically designed for female riggers, which I’m looking forward to. I’m hoping that it will be a way that we can learn, practice with others and get more female riggers in the Vancouver community.
PG and I have a extensive rope kit but we use it only for us. It’s hemp rope dyed black, suits us and we both like how it stands out against my skin. It has only touched PG and I skin, which is the way it will stay. However, it does present an issue now that I’m learning how to tie. I’m debating about getting my own rope kit, picking out a different colour however I want to stick with hemp, which isn’t the cheapest. I’m thinking about picking which colour will be my play/casual one and buying a small amount and building up as time goes along. Another option is PG has a lot of natural hemp that he is willing to let me use. I think the second option might be best for me until I build another rope kit. Once, I get more advance I can make more of an investment but since I’m just starting off with the basics, it will work.
I find that when I bottom, I generally have my own hemp that I bring but it’s rarely used except for crotch ropes. The people that I have played with tend to prefer using their own rope. For other relationships in the future, I’m not sure we would have unique rope as it really depends on the relationship, connection and how we both feel about it.
It would be interesting to hear if other people have rope that is separated by relationships vs casual play or any other way that you do it.

I order rope by the spool and finish it myself. Rawganique sells it for around $80 for a 3 kg spool, which works out to around 450 feet for 6 mm and 300 feet for 8 mm. It takes a little time dying and finishing, but it’s much more economical than buying kits online.
I don’t do much of bondage with casual partners at parties so I don’t have separate rope. Also, I don’t use the hemp for bondage that touches the genitals. I have a supply of sisel that I use for crotch ropes which I then just throw away afterwards.
Thanks for the info. I’ve always been interested in finishing it myself. What are you tips for finishing?
I typically bring my own hemp rope for that reason (in regards to crotch ropes). I clean it myself but that way if someone who is tying me wants to use one, I feel comfortable and they don’t need to worry about it afterwards. Now to figure out what to do with others. Where do you get sisel from?
The sisel I get at Home Depot or Rona. The stuff is inexpensive. Originally bought it to refinish a scratching post that one of my cats loves using.
For hemp, I know a some folks swear that you have to do a ton of stuff to condition it. I find washing it once softens it up quite a bit. My process is basically
1. wash it and let it dry thoroughly
2. dye it. I use a hot water dye and let it simmer on the stove for 20 minutes to half an hour.
2.a If I don’t dye it, I basically do step 2 without the dye
3. after the rope is dried thoroughly after step 2, condition it with jojoba oil.
I don’t bother removing the fuzzies. These will eventually where off with use.
I cut my rope to desired length after I dyed it, as there is usually a bit of shrinkage
