It can be really tough finding good erotica. Sometimes you just want to curl up in bed or turn on the computer and be guaranteed that what you are about to read will turn you on and get you off. The famous, Violet Blue, edited the Best Women’s Erotica 2008. These 21 short stories aren’t too long, but long enough you’ll you want to stop to relieve the tension. There’s something here for every taste including lots of girl on girl, het, female domination, and more. This in not your typical pure vanilla erotica; there are lots of stories with kink or fetish themes. It makes great reading solo, with a partner, or as a way to make an unforgettable impression at your book club meeting.

best-womens-eroticaA couple of capsule summaries to give you the flavour:

In “Getting Sorted” by Morticia Catherine, Kate, the heroine, has her first ever same sex encounter with a female escort/dom. That scene is really hot and mind-blowing, but it’s far from the end of things. Kate winds up staying to work with Ketha on a male client. “Steering me around like a trotting pony, she guides his engorged muscle into my mouth. Behind me, the sound of buckles, followed by a firm nudging at my cunt lips.” I could picture myself as Kate – being Ketha’s sex slave and “forced” to service men, all while making a good living. (They say the secret to happiness is to do what you love, and find a way to get paid for it.)

“Peekabo,” by Jordana Winters, is a tale of a young, plain woman, long accustomed to getting off while watching unsuspecting couples through her telescope. Attending her first sex party, she winds up going voyeur on a couple having hot sex in a bathroom stall.  At first, they are unaware of her presence. But when they do realize she’s there, they’re delighted to put on a performance for her. All three end up having mind blowing orgasms.  As both a voyeur and an exhibitionist, I think Jordana has perfectly captured the symbiotic energy between the watchers and the willingly watched.

My partner, PG, had some insight into this collection:

Guys of a certain generation (i.e. my own) were raised to think of erotic writing as the Penthouse Forum “throbbing python of love” letters supposedly from readers. Nominally non-fiction, they were in fact, wish-fulfillment fantasies.

This collection is openly fiction, yet far more real than those letters. This is the kind of “chick lit” guys can really get behind (and on top of, and underneath).  Alpine and I had a wonderful afternoon of reading bedtime stories to one another. Writing erotic fiction that isn’t unintentionally funny is a real challenge (I speak from experience). Here any humour here is deliberate, without detracting from the sexiness. Two thumbs (or whatever) up.

Back to Alpine for the summary: Overall I really enjoyed the stories in Best Women’s Erotica 2008. Not every tale was to my personal taste, but that’s the great thing about a sexual smorgasbord – there is something for everyone, and I did find most stories really hot. I would often have to grab one of my sex toys and masturbate mid-way.
